Automated Laboratory UMC Utrecht
INTOS made the laboratory furniture and customized pass-through wall for the brand new automated laboratory in the Dutch hospital the UMC in Utrecht. A great project to work on to create an efficient and modernized work environment.
Customer request
The UMC in Utrecht needed a larger and automated laboratory. INTOS developed lab furniture such as tables, cupboards and sinks that fitted in the new space. UMC also asked us to develop a pass-through wall to give different departments the opportunity to pick up samples outside of the regular working hours. The pass-through wall includes several boxes, a pass-through refrigerator and a pass-through freezer.
Approach
INTOS first created the furniture in 3D drawings and started production from there. After the production our mechanics installed the furniture on location. The special table with a pneumatic tube system required contact with the supplier to make sure everything was connected well. This table is used as delivery point where material is being sent in through tubes that go through the whole hospital. The material is received by rails that are installed in the middle of the table. The table has a rounding in the tabletop so that it creates an ergonomic work situation. For the installment of the pass-through wall there was close contact with the supplier of the refrigerator and freezer.
Result
The result is a very modern and spacious laboratory with a sufficient amount of workspace.
