One World Lounge - Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Customer needs

The need for such a rest and relaxation area had already been filled by British Airways at Schiphol Airport, but it was closed. Architect D/DOCK came up with the new concept for OneWorld at Schiphol Airport. The goal: all participating airlines should recognise themselves in the design and comfort of OneWorld. Anywhere in the world, including Schiphol. As an extra touch, the interior was allowed to become 'next level' with eye-catchers, including artistic expressions.

The INTOS approach

INTOS also signed for the realisation of this lounge. It is nice that INTOS is often chosen for this kind of project: trust, craftsmanship and respect for the company philosophy are important keywords here. First, the 450 m2 lounge was completely demolished inside.

Once again, the direction was in the trusted hands of Phil Rijkhoff, Project Director of INTOS. The interior plan puts the OneWorld member first, they recognise the soothing yet invigorating look of the lounge. In consultation with the architect, INTOS realised the entire interior design, the decoration of the walls as well as the installation of modern seating and tables. Floor finishing and technical installations were also carefully taken care of. Interior fittings and furniture are perfectly coordinated, with a real eye for detail such as round elements. The lounge is located above the panorama terrace. In less than a year, BA's old lounge was completely transformed into a new space. "A challenge, but we work with professionals who are very good at what we do. Experience counts, of course, but certainly also the work ethic that hard and efficient work pays off!"

INTOS as general contractor

It was quite a challenge but it came to fruition excellently. The assignment to ensure that travellers and airport staff were not inconvenienced by all the works was also well executed. INTOS made the lounge temporarily 'landside' during those works. Just before completion, the lounge became airside again.

On 21 February, the new OneWorld Lounge was festively opened by Swissport and all partners. Everyone showed great satisfaction. OneWorld Lounge: a world in itself and worldly to build on!
