Towards the end of 2017 INTOS started the refurbishment of the offices for ABN AMRO Insurances in Zwolle. A project of 5500 m2 with the focus on sustainability and circularity. In cooperation with the architects of D/Dock we delivered the interior for seven floors within a period of seven months.

Customer inquiry

ABN AMRO Insurances wanted to create a new work environment for their seven-floor offices located at the IJseltoren in Zwolle, The Netherlands. The theme of the new workspace became ‘circular work’. The architects of D/Dock created a circular design with space for spontaneous interaction and cooperation. They asked INTOS to build the interior in the most sustainable way.

Approach
INTOS was involved early in the process and worked from the first sketches on the details of the execution to make sure the project could be realized within the budget. We mostly used sustainable materials such as FSC and PEFC certified wood. The acoustic walls, parts of the ceiling and the alcoves used for consultation, are lined with felt made our of recycled PET bottles. Some elements of the original interior were recycled. For example the dividers between the desks are reused in the new design to line the planters.

INTOS adopted the role as contractor and took up the coordination of several subcontractors. We realized the painting, placing of partitions and the stucco work. This demanded a very lean planning. Within seven months all seven floors had to be delivered. Per floor we had four weeks time to move the employees to another floor, dissemble the original interior and build the new interior for the whole floor and install it. INTOS created a prefab system that allowed us to build the entire interior for the floor in our in-house production area and ship it to the location to put it together. Because every step would have to be done for all seven floors, planning and sharp coordination were essential.

Result
The result is a modern updated office within the budget and timeframe. ‘The communication between the architects of D/Dock and other parties involved like our subcontractors was very clear and we cooperated very well together. Because of this we were able to deliver the project successfully within seven months.’ Says Thijs Leemreize, project manager at INTOS.
